Starting a Food Drive
Organizations, businesses, and individuals can start a food drive to benefit the Huntington Area Food Bank. Here are a few steps that will be needed to make it a success:
Call the Huntington Area Food Bank (HAFB):
To coordinate a food drive, ask to speak with Brooke Ash.
Establish a committee:
Pick some real "go-getters" to head the drive.
Set a goal and time period:
Give the volunteers an idea of how much food each should strive to attain.
Get the word out:
Create flyers, posters, emails or memos to let everyone know. Post them in businesses, libraries, post offices, and grocery stores.
A few tips:
- Pick a theme or slogan for the food drive.
- The HAFB will deliver barrels to your location and pick-up food items as needed throughout the drive.
- Make it fun. Have a poster decorating party or make it a contest between departments, groups, or classes.
- Create incentives. Give prizes or have an end of the drive party.
- Promotional items such as brochures and displays can be provided upon request.
